Message From the Head
Dear Parents,
A week of formative assessment for our Year 7 and 8 pupils, who have been taking their formal exams (mocks for Year 7). Whilst only a handful of public schools (such as Charterhouse) require incoming pupils to sit Common Entrance assessments, we continue to maintain these examinations at Barrow Hills as they provide a clear academic target, with different levels to aspire to. The Common Entrance curriculum also helps sustain the academic rigour that underpins our broad and ambitious program, preparing children of all abilities to thrive at senior school and go on to achieve strong GCSE outcomes. In short: low stakes, high cognitive gains. I am expecting another impressive set of results, with a healthy collection of A and B grades.
Year 2 enjoyed some excellent cricket fixtures this week and, with a return to Forest School, managed to get outdoors between the thunderstorms. A proper deluge is always enjoyed by the children, who seem far less concerned about getting wet than most adults!
Sadly we had to cancel Proms this year, however we will look to create opportunities for some of the performances to feature within upcoming events and hope to capture others on film for you to enjoy.
Please do keep an eye on the calendar, as there are many events and occasions to look forward to over the coming weeks.
Mr Towers, Head
