Following their stunning singing at Arundel Cathedral, the Bridewell Choir were subsequently invited to sing choral evensong at Bristol Cathedral. The service was lead by the Dean of Bristol who commented on the fantastic standard of singing and particularly enjoyed the anthem ‘Let all the world in every corner sing’ by Vaughan Williams. Members of the congregation passed on their thanks and congratulations to the choristers for their effort and talent.
Not only did the choristers have a chance to sing in such a special place, they also enjoyed a cultural trip on the SS Great Britain, the first trans-Atlantic ship, designed by Brunel. They learnt about life on board ship for the different classes, how such a ship made regular trips to Australia, became a troop carrier and was also a large cargo ship during its long life at sea.
The choristers enjoyed the opportunity to sing, however I am reliably informed that their highlight was lunch at the largest buffet in the UK, including treats that covered every option they could ask for and of course a large dessert station!
This trip was a testament to the hard work of the choir who have a reputation for excellent standards and talent. They are now looking forward to the next chapter… Venice in January 2025!
My thanks to the staff Mrs Mason, Madame Early and Mr Richardson and to the chorister parents, as always, for their support.
Mr Frazer
