On Friday 8th October, our U11 girls hockey team travelled to Haileybury School to play in the regional round of the IAPS competition. The regional competition had 24 schools split into four sections. After a very early 6.30am departure from Barrow Hills the girls progressed through their section of six schools in first place to reach the quarterfinals.
First Round:
Spratton Hall: Win
Pipers Corner Prep: Win 2-0
Crosfields: Win 2-0
Kimbolton: Win 3-0
Hornsby House: Draw 0-0
Cup Competition Knock-Out Stage:
Quarter Final: Win (on penalty flicks) Chigwell Junior
Semi Final: Lost 0-1 Chesham Prep
3rd/4th play-off: Won 1-0 Hornsby House
The girls’ quarterfinal against Chigwell Junior finished with a 0-0 draw and so the winner had to be decided on penalty flicks. Cleo (6G), Bea (4G) and Ottie (6G) each took a flick with Eloise in goal against our oppo. Amazingly, Barrow Hills won the penalty flick competition 3-2 and gained their place in the semi finals!
The girls then faced Chesham Prep in the semi-final. Sadly, we conceded our only goal of the tournament and lost 1-0. So no final for Barrow Hills but instead the team went and played their final match of the day: 3rd/4th play-off.
Barrow Hills once again faced Hornsby House and this time we managed to beat them 1-0 to finish 3rd overall out of 24 schools.
The top four schools progress to the National Finals which will be held at Millfield School in November this year.
“Very well played to our team and I look forward to seeing them play at Millfield!”
