Subtraction has been the maths focus for Reception children this week. Armed with skittles and bowling balls the children headed out into the sunshine to see how many skittles could be knocked down. They started with 10, counted how many had fallen and how many were still standing. The children described what had happened using the words first, then and now. ‘First there were 10, then I knocked down 4 and now there are 6 still standing’. The maths continued with currant buns being made out of playdough and children spending their money in the bakers shop. Some careful counting was needed to make sure the correct amount of pennies were given for the number of buns taken. Well done Reception.
