Head of Classics: Miss Emily Cattle

5th September 2017

Miss Emily Cattle has been appointed Head of Classics for Barrow Hills and its partner school, King Edward’s Witley.

Miss Cattle, who previously taught Latin and Classical Civilisation at Lord Wandsworth College and Latin at Christ’s Hospital School (both boarding / day schools) takes up the new appointment in September, following a period working as a Policy Advisor in the Department for Communities and Local Government.

After graduating in 2008 from the University of St Andrews with an MA in Classics, Miss Cattle went on to gain a Masters in Classical Art and Archaeology at King’s College London.

As Head of Classics, Miss Cattle will be leading a popular department teaching Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation to pupils in Years and 8 at Barrow Hills School, as well as to pupils at King Edward’s Witley.

Commenting on her new position, Miss Cattle said, “I’m looking forward to promoting the relevance of Latin and Classics to the modern-day scholar. Of course, pupils who may be electing to move into certain vocations such as Law and Medicine will already be aware of the benefits of an understanding of Latin ahead of their vocational studies. However, I’m keen to also establish an improved appreciation of the value of these subjects to the wider student population and will be embracing popular social media and new technologies to help communicate this message.”

Miss Cattle will be living on site at King Edward’s Witley, joined by her cat Mabel!
